okay, let’s start with this: i don’t have the best photos from the night, but i was able to grab a couple shots. this was a handful of awesome local connecticut bands coming together to celebrate scott pilgrim vs. the world in their own way, and it totally had that fun, energetic vibe.
mj bones got things started with a ukulele set, and it was the perfect way to ease into the night. their voice was incredible—like, you could listen to them sing anything and it’d be magic. playing as plum tree (the band that inspired scott pilgrim), they set a chill, intimate tone that warmed everyone up for the night ahead.
then braintree (ct), playing as blood red shoes, brought great energy as they made the transition to the bands for the night. they’re a metal band, and i could feel the bass vibrating in my chest—which, honestly, was deeply appreciated. the bassist totally nailed the scott pilgrim vibe with a ramona flowers wig, and the lead singer’s ramona flowers costume tied it all together. the crowd loved their call-and-response song—they even handed the mic to audience members, which was super fun and elevated the intimate vibe of the night. at one point, the singer stepped off the stage to get closer to the crowd, really connecting with everyone. later in the night, they handed out free stickers, which felt like a nice little bonus.
the costume contest was a great little break while bands were transitioning between sets. matthew patel ended up winning with his telltale suit and red shirt.
dog disaster (featured in accompanying images) called out of the show a couple hours beforehand due to some issues with their drummer being able to make it, but the drummer from part of the problem offered to sub in and the show went on. honestly, their set was wild—the singer/guitarist’s intensity really carried the whole thing with this intense force driving the set forward. they had a lot of pedals, but it all worked together in this big, messy, amazing way. and for their debut live show? they absolutely killed it.
closing the night was part of the problem (ct), playing as sex bob-omb. they brought so much chaotic energy to the stage—it was exactly how you’d imagine a live sex bob-omb show would go. their guitar broke mid-set, but they handled it like pros and didn’t miss a beat. it was the perfect way to end a night full of music, and good vibes.
night one was such a blast, and if this is how things kicked off, the rest of the weekend’s gonna be legendary. links to the bands can be found in my list of bands section on my blog :)
